Blogs

This is the section where we hope you, our user, will become involved. All of our writers have their own blog where they will write about gigs they've been to, albums they've heard and a million and one other things of interest to them. We want you to do the same. If you disagree with one of our reviews we want to hear about it! If you want to write for our site this is a good way to get your work noticed. You may just want to chat to another user of the site about your Old Man's flip-flops, that's fine too. Come back soon and register here.

I was made in the North so my default setting is indie, but soul, folk, hip-hop and house have all played a big part. If you're true to your roots then chances are I already like you. British music is the best in the world, so why try and sound like you're from somewhere else? (Lostprophets, I'm looking at you). A random flick through my iPod would be Oasis, Milburn, the Charlatans, the Donnas, Erick Morillo, Joni Mitchell, Saint Etienne, Snoop, Kasabian… and maybe the Bangles, but only for Susannah Hoffs. Panic At The High School Prom Chemical Disco and the rest of the EMO crowd - please take your Superdrug eyeliner and self-harm yourselves out of existence. And take Pete Doherty with you.

I like to draw. The smooth curves and clean lines of this site came through my vision (and unique ability, among the members of the project, to use photoshop). I am a keen flasher (writing code in flash that is) and like to show my wares around as much as possible. My duck is not fat compared to the original, despite rumours to the contrary. You will be seeing more of my work soon...

Give me Zeppelin, The Roses, Dylan, Oasis, Doves, Shadow, The Clash, White Stripes, Sufjan Stevens, AC/DC, Death In Vegas, Primals, Motown, Dexys, Big Star, Stones - You can keep your Razorlight, Killers, Automatic, Kooks, Snow Patrol, James Blunt / James Morrison / Daniel Powter shite and EMO bollocks. If you don't like it - sue me.

I don't profess to be some great master of musical knowledge and, much to my disappointment, I don't play any instruments. However, I do know what music I like and am open to any genre you can throw at me. The artists that have taken up most of my headphone time over the years are predictably The Beatles and maybe less predictably Tricky, Nick Drake, Led Zeppelin accompanied by the likes of Spearhead, Metallica and the Notorious BIG.

Hard-core, music entrepeneur. Producer, innovator, tune creator, writer of tighter, words than....damn it, run out of things to rhyme.

On my three times daily prayer visit to the church of Borrell, I give regular thanks to my saviour that he has allowed Keane, Snow Patrol and Athlete to live, prosper and continue making records. What a beautiful world we live in. Anyone who argues that the aforementioned are turd, and that actually Arthur Lee, Death in Vegas, Public Enemy, Lee Mavers, De La Soul, Otis Redding, MF Doom, Oasis and the Roses are the true keepers of the faith will get short shrift from me. At least they would, if I wasn’t too busy grooving to ‘America’ played for the 418th time on XFM this morning. Man, Borrell is in like Flynn.

The soundtrack to my life so far has been a pretty eclectic mix of rock, pop, hip hop, classical and dance music from all around the world. From favourites like The Doors and Guns n’ Roses to modern day Funky House, every genre, style and sound conjures up a special feeling. I love the great mix of musical styles around today, particularly influencing dance and hip-hop music. Many of these rhythms originate from other countries which is why I believe world music is important to all music lovers today.

John Lennon was right, Jim Morrison was wrong. Biggie was a Brooklyn born Shakespeare; P Diddy deserves his silly name. The Gallaghers will always be interesting regardless of fad or fashion. A James Brown tune warrants a dance despite the risk (in my case) this poses to others on the dance floor. The first Dire Straits album was good, as was The Second Coming. Ian Brown will prevail. Peter Green was a guitar God. Lee Mavers could only be a Blue. The Automatic are twats, fact. Stay open minded and there will always be great new music on the horizon.
